Save a little on gas...it's easy and it adds up.

As a rideshare driver, I'm always looking for ways to save a little on gas or car maintenance. This app, though a little clunky at first, has come a long way and I've now saved right at $100. The app is constantly adding new stations. In my area, Central Virginia, Valero is the biggest provider, followed by Shell. Two too many, now my focus is on Lyft

For some time I have driven rideshare on Saturday and Sunday mornings. My rideshare driving was successful in the sense that I reached my initial goal-- of funding my daughter's study abroad opportunity. Hence the name, Driving to Spain. I drove on weekends to fund her trip to Spain. Initially, I imagined shutting down this endeavor all together once the goal was met. Surprisingly, what I found was that I really enjoyed meeting people, and helping fill a need for them. So, I have continued to drive with the new horizon goal being a beach trip for my family in the Summer of 2020. While working toward the study abroad goal, I frequently deployed the Lyft and Uber app at the same time. It would cause a dance when both were open and one pinged....basically meaning I had to shut the other to avoid double pints on separate platforms. A beautiful- but zero- of a weekend.

After a nearly one month hiatus from my Uber driving, due to my "real" job having me on the road for a significant stretch, I was excited to fire up the Uber App this weekend and get back to saving for Spain. The sun broke as the clouds separated and began to move out. All was looking good. My hot coffee was in hand, windows down, waiting for a "ping." And then, I waited, and waited and waited some more. People create very intricate tracking mechanisms so that they can track rideshare profits or losses. Everyone wants to know their per hour earnings after expenses. My Uber earnings for Saturday and Sunday mornings, for about 3.5 hours each morning from 6 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. was stunning.... Zero dollars per hour. Yes, you read that right. This was a first for me.
